Captive Breeding Programmes
The Zoo prefers to breed critically endangered and endangered animal species since the costs incurred in keeping crocodiles bred in captivity are relatively high at our geographical latitudes.
Nowadays the Zoo implements the following breeding programmes:
Crocodylus rhombifer
Crocodylus siamensis …….. these species have already been captive-bred in the Zoo
Tomistoma schlegelii ……. In cooperation with Zoo Dvur Kralove, a young pair, another eight individuals (comprising 5, 3) are available. This is the largest group worldwide outside the countries of origin.
In terms of other endangered species, subadult animals are available, providing a suitable basis for defining groups: Alligator sinensis (1, 2), Crocodylus mindorensis (2, 2).
